President Vladimir Putin recently made a notable move, replacing 11 of the 85 regional leaders of the Russian Federation within 2 weeks.

This strategy will help overcome a serious weakness in President Putin’s current government, which is the lack of young individuals.
Although regional leadership positions in the current Russian political system are elected by the people, they need the support of President Putin when assuming these positions.

The position of regional leader in Russia is seen as an important stepping stone position for politicians to enter the federal government, or take on a more powerful role in the presidential administration.
7 of the regional leaders appointed on October 11 were just over 30 years old or a little over 40 years old, including Stanislav Voskresensky – the 41-year-old economist who replaced Mr. Pavel Konkov in the position.

Earlier this week, RBC news site posted a video recording a training program for future regional leaders organized by the Russian Academy of Economics and Civil Service for the Russian government.
Deputy Chief of the Russian President’s Office in charge of internal affairs, Mr. Sergei Kirienko, recently announced the opening of a competition for managers called `Russian Leaders`.
They will be placed in many situations to find solutions and participate in strategic games.
