President Nguyen Xuan Phuc arrived at Jose Marti International Airport, Havana, on September 18, starting his visit at the invitation of Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, according to VNA.

After arriving in Cuba, the President visited and talked with officers and employees of the Embassy and representatives of the Vietnamese community living and working in this country.

The President said that among the Vietnamese delegation visiting Cuba this time, there are leaders of many ministries and central branches with many aid activities, supporting the fraternal Cuban people to overcome difficulties and defeat the Covid-19 epidemic.

Previously, Vietnam’s Ministry of Health on September 17 conditionally approved Cuba’s Abdala vaccine for urgent needs in preventing and fighting the Covid-19 epidemic.

According to President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, during this visit, the two countries will sign many cooperation agreements, including a number of new cooperation projects, promoting bilateral relations to develop more quickly and effectively during this period.

On the afternoon of September 18 (morning of September 19 Hanoi time), President Nguyen Xuan Phuc received First Vice President of the Cuban Institute for Friendship with Peoples (ICAP) Noemi Rabaza Fernandez, President of the Cuba – Vietnam Friendship Association

Vice President of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with Peoples Fernandez emphasized that President Nguyen Xuan Phuc is the first foreign head of state to visit Cuba after the Communist Party of Cuba successfully organized the 8th Party Congress in April.

Currently, the Cuba – Vietnam Friendship Association has more than 1,600 members and the Institute also has extensive relationships around the world.

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc responded that despite many difficulties, Vietnam still strives to contribute to support Cuba.

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc received First Vice President of the Cuban Institute for Friendship with Peoples (ICAP) Noemi Rabaza Fernandesz.

After ending his visit to Cuba, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and the Vietnamese delegation will attend the high-level general discussion session of the 76th United Nations General Assembly and have a number of bilateral activities in the US on September 21-24.

Vietnam and Cuba established diplomatic relations on December 2, 1960, two years after the success of the Cuban Revolution.
