On a cool and humid summer night in 1816, a group of young people gathered at a villa on Lake Geneva, Switzerland.

After a dreamy night, Mary began writing the novel Frankenstein.

Even though it’s not real, Frankenstein’s monster is still a scary name for many tourists when visiting the castle located on a hilltop in the town of Gernsheim.

Many people wonder where Mary Shelley got the inspiration for Frankenstein?

Whether it’s true or not, the castle’s name accidentally has the same name as the British writer’s horror novel, which has scared many faint-hearted people who come here.

Before being associated with the name of a famous novel, this castle became an endless source of inspiration for locals curious about mysterious stories.

This castle is also said to be named after a legendary character – Georg von Frankenstein, the dragon slayer.

Frankenstein Castle was built in 1250, by Konrad Reiz von Breuberg and is located on a hilltop about 5 km south of Darmstadt, Germany.

Two other characters associated with Frankenstein castle are Konrad Reiz von Breuberg, the castle’s owner, and alchemist Johann Konrad Dippel.

Local people say that Johann Konrad Dippel has the secret to immortality.

`If he had been there doing experiments, Dippel must have been very lonely and cold,` Corey Schjoth, a photographer and tourist from Wisconsin, USA, said on Huffingtonpost.

Many tourists flock to Frankenstein castle to hunt ghosts, but no one has seen any mysterious phenomena.

Today, the ancient majestic castle now has only two towers, a chapel as well as the fortress wall.

In the last days of October every year, this place often organizes events for tourists and residents.

There are 3 events about to be held at this location: Halloween Burg Frankenstein (from 8:00 p.m. October 26), Burg Frankenstein Castle Halloween (6:00 p.m. October 27) and Kinder Halloween (2:00 p.m. October 28).

In addition, if you don’t come on Halloween, you can still come here through ghost hunting tours.

There is a restaurant here that serves dinner to visitors in medieval style.

Halloween festival takes place in the castle.

Here, visitors can comfortably party and sip Frankenstein-branded cocktails without having to scream loudly because of being scared by a monster.

The novel Frankenstein (also known as The Modern Prometheus) revolves around scientist Victor Frankenstein, who is always trying to create a living entity similar to a human, but larger and stronger.

Afterwards, the monster returned and asked Victor to create a mate for him, to reduce his loneliness.

Many people believe that the character `mad scientist` Victor has many similarities with Dippel.
