Hanoi plans to charge a maximum fee of 60,000 VND per trip for cars entering the inner city 2

Hanoi Public Transport Management Center (Department of Transport) has just reported to the city a project to collect fees for motor vehicles in some areas at risk of congestion and environmental pollution.

Vehicles are free, including: Priority vehicles according to current regulations (police, military, ambulance, fire…), public service vehicles, and buses.

Hanoi Public Transport Management Center said that the fee is built on a number of principles such as feasibility;

Citing the results of a 2019 sociological survey, the unit developing the fee collection project said the acceptable fee for people is 23,500 VND.

According to the project, if the fee is collected, it will bring many economic, social and environmental benefits.

Trung Hoa node is one of 9 locations selected to pilot the construction of toll stations in the period 2021-2025.

The Hanoi Public Transport Management Center also said that there is no plan for a specific form of investment as well as fluctuations in future exchange rates, so the final fee will be decided by the Hanoi People’s Committee in the research step.

The project has identified 68 locations with 87 toll stations located inside the boundary of ring 3, located on radial roads leading to the city center.

Estimated total investment cost of 87 stations is more than 2,600 billion VND, including initial investment costs, replacing depreciated equipment, not including operating costs.

It is expected that in the period 2021-2025, 15 toll stations will be built at 9 locations on inner-city axes with high traffic volume;

The project will be consulted by competent authorities, relevant units and organizations and submitted to the Hanoi People’s Council for consideration and approval at the last meeting of 2021.

Hanoi currently has about 6.4 million vehicles, of which 5.6 million are motorbikes;
