Jessica Kahawaty, 23 years old, has just been crowned Miss World Australia and will represent this country at Miss World 2012, starting on July 18.

Miss Australia’s national costume is compared to the character Neytiri in the movie `Avatar` directed by James Cameron.

The national costume includes a thin, body-hugging jumpsuit with strange patterns and an elaborate beaded collar combined with a piece of sparkling red brocade fabric tied at the waist.

Designer Julie Sufi said this national costume was inspired by the costumes of the Uluru aboriginal people in Australia.

Alex Perry – expert consultant of the Project Runway fashion show – calls this `circus clothes, not fashion`.

Designer Craig Braybrook shares this opinion.

In the face of fierce criticism, the dress’s author, Julie Sufi, affirmed that her design was a `unique and elaborate` creation.

This is not the first time that Miss Australia’s national costume has faced opposition.
