After the departure ceremony held at Cam Ranh military port on July 12, the squadron of guard ships 015 Tran Hung Dao and 016 Quang Trung of Brigade 162, Naval Region 4, today sailed to the city of Vladivostok, Russia.

Two Navy corvettes will compete in the `Sea Cup` competition within the framework of the 2021 International Military Games (Army Games) and participate in the parade commemorating the 325th anniversary of the founding of the Russian Navy.

This is the first time Vietnamese warships compete at an international sports festival, as well as bring weapons to compete with the country that produces these weapons.

Due to the complicated situation of the Covid-19 epidemic in Russia, the ship’s fleet has developed plans to ensure the safety of officers and soldiers.

Vietnamese warships will compete in the `Sea Cup` with 4 contents including maritime skills (maneuvering and fixing the ship with anchors, tying the ship’s driver to a fixed buoy), and fighting against sinking at the above training facility.

015 Tran Hung Dao and 016 Quang Trung are two Project 11661E `Gepard` missile defense ships that have been put into service with Brigade 162 since February 2018.

Ship 016 Quang Trung left Cam Ranh military port on the morning of July 13.

Vietnam’s Gepard-class corvette is applied with many stealth technologies, combining angular hulls and radar-absorbing paint, to minimize the radar reflection area before enemy reconnaissance systems.

The main weapons of the Gepard 3.9 class missile corvette are eight 3M24E anti-ship missiles with a range of 130 km, a 76.2 mm AK-176MA naval gun, a Palma anti-aircraft artillery and missile complex,
