On the morning of August 17, Vice Chairman of District 1 People’s Committee (HCMC) Doan Ngoc Hai said that the parking lot of more than 1,000 m2 behind the City Theater was closed from 9am.

During the campaign to restore urban order last night, the district 1 interdisciplinary team checked the license for this parking lot.

The authorities also fined 15 cars, including many luxury cars such as Mercedes, Audi… on Ton Duc Thang, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, and Dien Bien Phu streets.

For the first time in 8 months – since the campaign to restore urban order in District 1 was conducted – the interdisciplinary team `ignored` the violation of the driver and the car parked on the sidewalk.

Many pubs on Hoang Sa street (Da Kao ward) and Vo Van Kiet street (Cau Ong Lanh ward) were fined 5 million VND each by the authorities for occupying the sidewalk.

In previous raids, a series of cars, restaurants, and pubs were also fined.

In response to people saying that Ho Chi Minh City does not have enough parking lots, leading to a situation where cars have to park on the sidewalk, Mr. Doan Ngoc Hai affirmed that `the city may lack parking spaces, but District 1 alone does not lack it`, because the

District 1 has issued temporary parking permits for motorbikes on the sidewalk for nearly 2,000 cases.

Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee also plans to build many underground and high-rise parking lots in the central area in the near future.
